Trilogy of Epistemological Dimensions of Islamic Sciences (Trilogi Dimensi Epistemologi Keilmuan-keilmuan Islam)

Abstract

Epistemology in the Islamic educational thought tradition is very important to study in order to trace philosophically how to obtain knowledge, the nature of knowledge, and sources of knowledge. There are three typical epistemologies in the Islamic tradition, namely: bayani, 'irfani, and burhani. These three are sometimes called the trilogy of Islamic epistemology, which later gave rise to various thoughts from Muslim scholars. Islamic educational thought has Islamic characteristics, which in a unique way differentiates itself from other models of educational thought. The method used is: deduction, induction, consultation, so that a theory is found which is then registered in the treasury of Islamic education.
