Public Ethics In Nusantara Islam: Synthesizing Amanah, Justice, And Responsibility In National Life

Abstract

Public ethics provides an important foundation for building national life characterized by integrity, justice, and responsibility. However, the relationship between Islamic ethical values and public practice requires a conceptual framework that integrates moral, social, and institutional dimensions. This article aims to develop a conceptual synthesis of public ethics in Nusantara Islam by examining the relationship among amanah, justice, and responsibility. The study employs a qualitative approach based on library research and conceptual analysis. Literature on public ethics, Islamic thought, governance, and social and national contexts is examined thematically and comparatively to identify relationships among these values and their implications. The findings indicate that amanah encompasses integrity, the preservation of trust, and the responsible exercise of authority; justice guides the fulfillment of rights, the distribution of benefits, and the protection of common interests; and responsibility connects individual moral commitment with social and national obligations. These values form a mutually reinforcing ethical relationship rather than functioning as separate principles. The synthesis also highlights the importance of connecting spiritual orientation with institutional accountability, public participation, and sensitivity to local diversity. This article contributes a conceptual framework for advancing scholarship on public ethics in Nusantara Islam and provides an analytical foundation for developing governance practices grounded in integrity, inclusion, and the common good.
